STATEMENT BY SENATOR JEFF BINGAMAN Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee "Uninsured Pregnant Women: Impact on Infant and Maternal Mortality" October 24, 2002 I would like to thank Senator Kennedy for allowing us to hold this important hearing with respect to the health and well- being of both children and their mothers. Our nation ranks 28th the world in infant mortality and 21st in maternal mortality, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC.
