KINSHASA, Congo (AP) _ A gunman in military fatigues opened fire Monday
in the presidential palace of Congo leader Joseph Kabila, sparking
a firefight that killed two guards and the attacker.
The violence came nearly two years after Kabila's father, President
Laurent Kabila, died in an attack at the same marble palace. But authorities
said Monday's shooting was not an assassination attempt.
"A deranged man in military uniform entered the national security
committee premises, took a gun, and attacked the guards for a reason
we don't know because he was killed," spokesman Kikaya Bin Karubi
said.
