(Daily Californian) (U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory announced drastic increases in the processing capabilities of one of its largest supercomputers yesterday, to be made in conjunction with IBM.

The U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, located at Berkeley lab, will upgrade its supercomputer to process information at a rate of 10 trillion calculations per second.

Berkeley lab spokesperson Jon Bashor said he predicted the lab may move up from its No. 5 position on the Top 500 Supercomputer Sites List.
