The Colombian government has enlisted Washington's help in its efforts
to prevent the early prison release of two brothers who once ran the
world's most powerful drug trafficking gang.
A judge stunned the nation last week when he ordered the release of
Miguel and Gilberto Rodriguez, the leaders of the former Cali cartel,
after serving just half their sentences for drug trafficking. The
judge said he cut their sentences because they participated in a work-
study program in prison.
President Alvaro Uribe, seeking to avoid the international embarrassment
