The value of Thailand's leather goods exports have dropped sharply as a result of foreign manufacturers here moving production plants to China and Vietnam, an industry representative said. Thai Leather goods Association president Yingkiat Laosrisakdakul said the country's leather goods export value had dropped by around 30 per cent over the past few years. Yingkiat's gloomy appraisal of the industry followed a meeting with Industry Minister Somsak Thepsuthin yesterday. He said the fall was the result of foreign manufacturers taking advantage of lower production costs in China and Vietnam, especially labor.
