This is MORNING EDITION from NPR News. Bob Edwards is away. I'm
Jackie Judd.
China has a new leader. Hu Jintao officially took over the role of
Communist Party chief, as the fourth generation of leaders was presented
to the country and to the media today in Beijing. Hu leads the nine-
member standing committee that includes several allies of the outgoing
party chief, Jiang Zemin. NPR's Rob Gifford was in the Great Hall
of the People for today's ceremonies.
