Tom Glavine was eager to speak with Fred Wilpon and learn directly from the Mets' owner about his commitment to winning in 2003 and beyond.

At the same time, Wilpon wanted to talk with Glavine and spell out how the Mets' return to contention would coincide with the free agent pitcher's presence at Shea Stadium.
