A few hours after the Bali bombing, 35 Singaporeans the largest organized
business group from that country to visit since 1998 arrived in
Jakarta for a conference on investment opportunities. It was a grim
moment to discuss this sprawling nation's business potential. To the
surprise of the conference organizers, however, only two scheduled
participants stayed home. While the conference speakers shell-shocked
Indonesian government officials and frazzled business leaders focused
on politics and security, the Singaporeans eagerly asked questions
