Dateline: MOSCOW The Russian Air Force rescued a French traveler who was swept to sea Thursday on a chunk of ice in one of Russia's most northern and remote regions, the press service of the Air Force said.

The traveler, Jean Jules, managed to switch on a radio beacon after he was carried away on an ice floe that broke off during high winds in the mouth of the Lena River, Russian news agencies reported.
