Dateline: LUSAKA, Zambia Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa fired a cabinet minister who testified against him in a lawsuit that seeks to remove him from office over alleged election irregularities, officials said Tuesday.

The lawsuit, currently being heard by the Supreme Court, was brought by three opposition party candidates seeking to have Mwanawasa's presidential victory nullified because of what they say were irregularities in the Dec. 27 presidential election campaign.

Levison Mumba, the youth, sport and child development minister testified last week that he had given Mwanawasa the use of a government vehicle and medicines to distribution for use in his campaign.
