Qld: Affidavits tell of nursing staff shortages

BRISBANE, Dec 5 AAP - Dangerously ill babies at a Brisbane hospital
were not receiving
adequate attention because of nursing staff shortages, the Australian
Industrial Relations
Commission (AIRC) was told today.
In an affidavit to the AIRC, registered nurse Karen Embry said
staff in the intensive
care units of the Mater Mothers Misericordiae Hospital were under
constant stress because
of a lack of staff.
She said it was rare for even very ill babies to be nursed on a
one-to-one basis in these units.
