Bank sector higher as two of the big four reassure on EPS growth

MELBOURNE, Dec 12 AAP - The Australian banking sector received
a timely boost today
with two of the big four banks reassuring the market that their earnings
growth targets
are on line for 2002/03.
Westpac Banking Group Ltd chief executive David Morgan told shareholders
at today's
annual general meeting the bank was maintaining its forecast for seven
to nine per cent
earnings per share growth.
And on the eve of ANZ Banking Group Ltd's AGM in Perth, spokesman
Paul Edwards said
the bank was still aiming for its "stretch target" of 10 per cent
EPS growth.
