Beth Simon rides city buses six days a week. And if they ran on Sundays
in her Pennsylvania city, she'd ride then, too. She's not trying
to get anywhere. Beth Simon is 42 and has mental retardation. She'
s turned the buses into a community all her own, and she's trying
to find her place in the world. It's a common challenge, as record
numbers of people with retardation move into small group homes or
live on their own. NPR's Joseph Shapiro has the story.
