For 160 years, US military policy has dictated that no soldier will
be left behind. That rule includes those who die in battle, and there'
s no limitation on how long the military continues to look for remains.
When remains are found, they must be identified by matching DNA samples
from surviving kin. But sometimes when the remains are unearthed from
a Civil War battlefield or a German riverbank, finding living family
