Article: General Electric employees plan national job walkout over health care costs

Dateline: FAIRFIELD, Connecticut Thousands of General Electric Co. workers plan to conduct a two-day national walkout next week to protest an increase in health care copayments, company and union officials said.

As many as 20,000 employees in 23 states plan to walk off the job Jan. 14 and 15.

GE said it received notification from The International Union of Electronic Workers/Communications Workers of America, which represents about 13,900 employees, or 5 percent of GE's work force.

The United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America, which represents another 5,000 GE employees, will walk out at the same time, said union secretary Stephen Tormey.
