Greece's merchant marine minister harshly criticized Spanish authorities
Wednesday for their handling of the Prestige tanker disaster, and
defended the ship's Greek captain.
"This ship did not sink by itself. They sank it," Giorgos Anomeritis
told a news conference.
"For six days, the ship was floundering between Portugal and Spain.
They sent out their warships to push it from one to the other, so
it would sink away from the shore."
Anomeritis stopped short of blaming Spanish authorities for the disaster,
saying he would wait for their report.
