Ann Godoff, president, publisher and editor in chief of the Random
House Trade Group, is leaving amid a reorganization that eliminated
her position, company officials said Thursday.
Godoff, head of the group since 1997, edited such best sellers as
"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," by John Berendt, and "The
God of Small Things," by Arundhati Roy.
In an internal memo, Random House Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer Peter Olson announced that Godoff's division, whose performance
he said had been disappointing, would merge with the Ballantine Books
division.
