FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 23,2003 Manzullo: SBA Study Confirms Small Employers Need Options to Battle Surging Health Care Costs (WASHINGTON) House Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo (R-IL) said a federal study released today shows small businesses are paying too much for their health insurance and need options to bring down the costs for their families and their employees. The study, by the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration, found that administrative expenses for small business health plans make up 25 to 27 percent of premiums, compared to 5 to 11 percent administrative costs for large companies' self-insured plans.
