Vic: No Easter Sunday exemption for city traders, Bracks

MELBOURNE, Feb 14 AAP - Victorian Premier Steve Bracks today dismissed a bid to have city retailers made exempt from a ban on Easter Sunday trading.

Melbourne Lord Mayor John So had called for the exemption, saying the ban would harm the city's reputation as a retail destination.

Mr Bracks said some exemptions would be available for special events and activities, but indicated further exemptions were not being considered.

He said banning Easter Sunday trading had been a longstanding Labor policy which it had taken to the last election.
