Citing its need for "gross national happiness," Bhutan appealed Wednesday
to 19 donor countries and a range of U.N. and other international
organizations for help in meeting a US$284.2 million "resource gap"
to reduce poverty in the country.
The South Asian country told the two-day meeting that its five-year
plan strives for a balance in the economic, social, emotional and
cultural needs of its people.
Officials said the country didn't expect immediate pledges but hopes
