Dateline: BANGKOK, Thailand A prison where all of Thailand's executions are carried out said Thursday it is ready to replace machine guns with lethal injections when a bill mandating the change is passed by Parliament.

The lower house voted 288-60 on Wednesday to change the country's long-standing execution method to lethal injections, arguing they are less painful and cruel than shooting prisoners.

The bill, which still must be approved by the upper house and receive royal endorsement, is expected to become law by midyear.
