It's now almost 12:17 in the Eastern time zone; 9:17 in the Pacific
Coast. And you are listening to National Public Radio's special coverage
of the disaster, apparently, this morning. The space shuttle Columbia
has broken up in the atmosphere in the skies over eastern Texas.
That occurred shortly after 8 AM this morning as it was trying to
make a safe landing in Florida. Search and rescue teams have been
deployed in Texas. It is not clear that--well, it is probably not
clear that the lives of the seven astronauts ...
