A medical professor was elected chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee
Tuesday as it met for the first time with three new members.
Ole Danbolt Mjoes, a professor at the University of Tromsoe, succeeded
Gunnar Berge, whose two-year term presiding over nominations for the
Nobel Peace Prize ended this month.
Members of the five-person Nobel Committee are appointed by Norway'
s Storting, or parliament, and typically reflect its political makeup.
Terms last six years and members can be reappointed.
Mjoes is a member of Norway's Christian Democratic Party. Other new
