Two cousins were sentenced to more than three years in prison for
their roles in a cigarette-smuggling ring that sent profits to the
militant group Hezbollah.
U.S. District Judge Graham Mullen on Thursday sentenced Mohamad Atef
Darwiche, 33, and Ali Hussein Darwiche, 32, to 37 months in prison.
Each face deportation to Lebanon after their sentences end.
Mullen also sentenced a Michigan man who bought large amounts of the
cigarettes to two years in prison.
Thursday's sentencing set the stage for a hearing scheduled Friday,
when the leaders of the scheme, brothers Mohamad and Chawki Hammoud,
were also to be sentenced.
