Mexico's decision to take a greater role in world politics has left
President Vicente Fox with a tough choice: oppose military intervention
in Iraq and risk damaging U.S.-Mexican relations, or support the United
States and face an angry backlash at home.
Mexico _ one of six nations on the U.N. Security Council that could
help turn the tide toward war _ is holding out for a compromise that
will please both sides.
In the meantime, Fox is walking a fine line, saying world leaders
should do all they can for peace, but insisting that Saddam Hussein
must disarm.
