Switzerland held out Thursday against European Union pressure to sign
on to a long-sought deal to tax savings of EU citizens with Swiss
bank accounts, insisting the EU make concessions on issues it wants.
After talks with EU officials, Swiss Finance Minister Kaspar Villiger
said the two sides had made progress toward an agreement, but problems
with company taxation was unsolved.
"We've found compromise on everything except one issue," Villiger
told reporters. "It's the only point which is open. On the others
we've found a solution."
In return for agreeing to EU demands for it to clamp down on EU citizens
