Trey Hillman thinks a winning attitude is the key to success for the
Nippon Ham Fighters.
The 40-year-old Texas native was hired by the Japanese Pacific League
team in November with hopes of turning around a franchise that hasn'
t won a pennant in over two decades.
"I think the biggest difference a manager can make is in the atmosphere
on the bench," Hillman said Sunday before a preseason game against
the Yakult Swallows.
Hillman is the first American manager of a Japanese team since former
New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine led the Chiba Lotte Marines
to a second-place finish in 1995.
