Fed: News cameraman first Australian casualty of war in Iraq

A news cameraman has become the first Australian casualty of the war in Iraq.

PAUL MORAN -- a 39-year-old freelance cameraman working for the ABC -- was killed in a suicide car bombing in northern Iraq.

The federal government says he appears to have been the victim of retaliation by an Islamic group for an earlier US bombing.

Mr MORAN was filming on Saturday at Sayed Sadiq in the autonomous Kurdish area when a taxi sped alongside him and exploded, killing him and four others instantly.
