Trey Hillman hopes to last longer in Japan than Bobby Valentine did.
Hillman left the Texas Rangers' front office to manage Tokyo's No.
2 team, the Nippon Ham Fighters. He's the first American manager in
Japan's major leagues since 1995, when Valentine led the Chiba Lotte
Marines to second place _ and was promptly fired.
"I wanted a two-year deal because I knew it would be impossible to
make the types of changes the organization wants in one year," Hillman
said. "And if things work out, I may stay longer."
Hillman, a 40-year-old Texas native, managed the New York Yankees'
