Fed: Tas and Gold Coast lead east coast tourism boom

MELBOURNE, April 3 AAP - Tasmania and the Gold Coast are leading
a coastal tourist
boom driven by Australians looking to holiday close to home.
While international travel has fallen away - the war in Iraq and
Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome (SARS) threat this week forced Qantas to reduce its international
flights by
20 per cent until mid-July - local tourist markets have had visitor
numbers increase since
the Bali bombing last October.
Tasmania's peak tourism body said the number of people travelling
to the state by ferry
jumped by 41 per cent and arrivals by air increased by 29.5 per ...
