U.S. President George W. Bush on Tuesday endorsed new British-led
peace proposals for Northern Ireland, urging Protestants and Catholics
to seize the opportunity for a final agreement and set an example
for the world.
Bush's support for the peace process in Northern Ireland came before
he and British Prime Minister Tony Blair devoted the final two hours
of their two-day summit to meeting key players in Northern Ireland'
s Good Friday agreement. Blair and Bush spent most of the summit discussing
postwar Iraq.
