Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors appeared to have priced in expectations the war in Iraq was drawing to a close. The dollar was slightly higher against the Japanese yen.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened down 40.15 points, or 0.49 percent, at 8,091.26. The index dropped 118.57 points, or 1.44 percent, on Tuesday.

The dollar was trading at 119.80 yen at 9 a.m., up 0.12 yen from 119.68 late Monday in Tokyo and above the 119.79 yen it bought in late New York trading.
