Officials from the United States, Japan and South Korea will meet
Friday to discuss the North Korean nuclear issue ahead of planned
multilateral negotiations, a senior official said Thursday.
The working-level talks in Washington are a forerunner to negotiations
to be held in Beijing later this month, Japan's top government spokesman
said.
"The meeting's purpose is to plot a course of direction for resolving"
the deadlock with Pyongyang over its suspected nuclear weapons program,
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said.
