Article: Games, events at San Diego State U. raise 'queer' awareness

(The Daily Aztec) (U-WIRE) SAN DIEGO -- Out and proud. That is the theme for this year's Queer Awareness Week. San Diego State University's Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Student Union was in charge of the events.

The term "queer" is no longer meant to be a derogatory word, LGBTSU Executive Director Ben Cartwright said.

"It's a positive term," he said. "People are reclaiming it as a term of empowerment."

It is a word that encompasses all members, instead of saying lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
