(Daily Californian) (U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- University of California-Berkeley Chancellor Robert Berdahl drew fire from students and faculty Tuesday for his decision to ban students from selected Asian countries from enrolling in summer classes because of the SARS epidemic.
The Monday announcement of the decision to turn away from summer classes about 600 students from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, which have large numbers of suspected SARS cases, reverberated around the nation. It was the first action of its kind in the country.
