Veteran South African scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen was Tuesday
named caretaker captain of the Springboks for the opening test of
the season against Scotland on June 7.
He will hold the reins of the squad in the absence of incumbent captain
Corne Krige who was confirmed in his post for the World Cup in Australia
in October.
Coach Rudolf Straeuli blended youth and experience in a 24-man squad
which included nine players from South Africa's best-performing Super
12 outfit, the Bulls, who finished a lowly sixth in this year's competition.
