Taiwan reported its biggest increase in new SARS cases in nearly a
week with 50 confirmed illnesses, while in Toronto, a health official
said that a new outbreak of the SARS virus in Canada's largest city
may involve as many as 70 more patients.
Fears over severe acute respiratory syndrome also have spread, with
a hotel in Alaska refusing to accept a guest who had flown through
Singapore and Hong Kong.
That came on the first day of an anti-SARS policy adopted at 13 hotels
in Alaska and Canada, which are owned by the Holland America cruise
line.
