Dateline: CASTRIES, St. Lucia The opposition criticized the government Thursday for guaranteeing millions of dollars for a French company's failed hotel construction, and called for the prime minister's resignation.

The 284-room Hyatt Regency Hotel, for which the government guaranteed Eastern Caribbean $30 million (US$11 million) in cost overruns, was open from 2000 to 2002 before it was forced into receivership.

The Hyatt was bought out last year by Jamaica's Sandals chain and renamed Sandals Grande.

The opposition criticized Prime Minister Kenny Anthony for granting the guarantee in 1997 to Paris-based Rochamel Construction Ltd. before construction had even started ...
