Dateline: TEHRAN, Iran Iran invited the United States on Monday to tender for the construction of its nuclear power plants in a bid to allay Washington's fears that Tehran is building a nuclear bomb.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi appeared to be flying a kite at a press conference because he did not say how the offer would pass Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has banned all official dealings between Iran and the United States.

Asefi also said Iran would reveal the names of the al-Qaida members in its custody as soon as security officials had identified them.
