Fed: House prices up 3.4 per cent in March quarter: ABS

CANBERRA, June 5 AAP - House prices in Australia's capital cities continue to steam ahead but the pace of growth slowed in the first three months of the year.

The House Price Index, issued quarterly by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), showed an average rise of 3.4 per cent in the March quarter, from 4.8 per cent in the December quarter, and 18 per cent for the year.

The latest figures show growth in Sydney house prices slumped to 3.3 per cent from 6.2 per cent earlier.

But they were still 20.9 per cent higher over the year to March.
