The government is looking for 10 million pounds of frozen strawberries
to put on millions of schoolchildren's plates and to feed to needy
people.
"This purchase will increase the opportunity for recipients to incorporate
fruit into their diets," Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman said Thursday.
A consumer eats about 6 pounds of strawberries in a year, the department
says. Given that, it would take a consumer 1.7 million years to eat
all of those strawberries.
Or, one person would have to eat 27,397 pounds of strawberries a day
to consume all 10 million pounds in one year.
