NSW: No cuts to stamp duty says NSW government
SYDNEY, June 15 AAP - Stamp duty rates would not be cut in the
upcoming NSW Budget
despite opposition disclosures that stamp duty revenue had increased
by up to ten times
in key suburbs, Treasurer Michael Egan said today.
"Stamp duty is here to stay, unfortunately, in every state in Australia,
" Mr Egan told reporters.
"I would love to provide stamp duty relief and I would love to reduce
other tax rates
in NSW, but I can't responsibly do that without taking money away
from our schools, or
our hospitals or public transport."
