NSW: All you ever wanted to know about stamp duty

SYDNEY, June 27 AAP - The Carr government can thank its lucky stars it presides in NSW where capital city house prices soared by nearly 25 per cent in the past year.

It doesn't have to announce unpopular things like raising stamp duty rates.

It can just sit back and watch the bank balance grow fatter, thanks to the Sydney residential property boom.

And what a boom it's been, fuelled by low interest rates, the First Home Owners Grant and miserable sharemarkets turning investors to property.
