Friday's emergency transport of about 20 middle-school students from a math camp at a University of Southern Maine campus demonstrates that hot temperatures are clearly nothing to trifle with.

About a dozen of the transported kids suffered from heat exhaustion, a condition that can occur when the body becomes dehydrated in hot, humid weather.
