The United States wants the U.N. Security Council to condemn North
Korea's nuclear weapons program despite Pyongyang's call for the council
to act impartially, U.S. Ambassador John Negroponte said Friday.
North Korea followed up a letter warning the council to take a neutral
stance regarding Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions with visits to many
of the 15 council members urging them not take action that would imperil
a negotiated settlement, diplomats said.
