Shares broke through the 500point mark for the first time in four years
yesterday, buoyed by speculative buying in bank stocks ahead of second
quarter earnings reports.
Shortly after the opening bell rang, the SET index passed through the
psychological barrier and headed north further to the day's peak and closing
price of 503.19.
The index moved in positive territory for the whole day, but was
confined to the 496.58 to 503.19 band due to profittaking.
The banking sector led the gain with an acrosstheboard rise.
Kasikornbank soared 4.64 per cent to Bt39.50; Siam Commercial Bank climbed
