Indian officials plan to ask the U.S. military chief to set up ties
between the Indian military and the U.S. Central Command, the American
military jurisdiction that covers Pakistan and the Gulf countries,
a newspaper reported Tuesday.
U.S. military commands are divided geographically and India now has
ties only with the Pacific Command, joining in that region's military
exercises, rescue operations and sea piracy.
U.S. Central Command, which covers the volatile Middle East, is considered
the one with most direct access to Washington's decision-making.
