Article: Enrollment in Arabic classes at UC Berkeley swells to all-time high

(Daily Californian) (U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- Enrollment in the University of California-Berkeley's elementary Arabic classes hit an all-time high both last fall and this summer, reflecting growing public interest and media coverage of the Arabic-speaking world.

Nearly 100 students enrolled in a record five sections of beginning Arabic last year and almost all completed the two-semester course.

The summer program has also seen a threefold increase in enrollment in the intensive Arabic summer session, jumping from the typical 20 students to 60 this year.
