It's a special birthday for the Clark County Fair. At 135 years old, ten years older than the State of Washington, the Clark County Fair boasts a rich and interesting history.
On July 31, 1868, a group of civic, business, and agricultural leaders formed an Agricultural and Mechanical Society, headed by Lewis Van Fleet. On October 21, 1868, the society held a 4-H fair in Esther Short Park, then called the Vancouver Public Square.
Much like today's fair, the event featured exhibits of cattle, horses, sheep, seeds, vegetables, mechanical devices, shooting and more. A horse racing event was also held on a half-mile track, and the fastest ...
