Police officers are supposed to advise the people they arrest of their Miranda rights--the right to remain silent, for example, and the right to a lawyer--but commentator Lis Wiehl says in some parts of the country, police officers are being trained to violate a suspect's right to remain silent after arrest.

Miranda rights are supposed to put bright-line restraints on police officers. Once a suspect asks for a lawyer, the police are supposed to stop the interrogation, period. The consequence ...
